MARS THE RED DUSTY PLANET!!!

In Week 5 of Term 2 our class focussed on how to write great information reports.

We wrote about the planet Mars as we are in the middle of learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. Learning how to write a great information report will help us with our self-guided topics in a few weeks time.

Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.

Mars the red dusty PLANET!!!

Have you ever wondered why people don’t live on or take a trip to Mars? Well a fact is that the planet Mars is so cold and sandy for people to live or take a trip there, and there is no water for people to drink. We all know that we can not survive without water and food to drink and eat! This planet is also named after the Roman God of war and is also the fourth planet from the Sun.

Surface features

Mars is called a red planet as you can see Mars is so different to here in New Zealand. It is rocky for people to live there, People can not live there because there is nothing there for living home. It has a cold surface. It is cause by the presence of rust in its sandy soil. Mars also has a very thin atmosphere.

Could Humans live on MARS?

Well as you can see some people think that we can live on Mars or people had been to Mars. Well Mars looks like it is an uninhabitable place for people to live. Why is this place so uninhabitable? Maybe because there is only a little bit of oxygen with no liquid water (H20) and food. Also people cannot live there because there is very strong dust storms that can go on for months. Furthermore, machines that look like steel robots can go to Mars. Mars is the only planet known to have such all-encompassing things there.

The Orbit of Mars

Even though Mars is our closest neighbour, its orbit is very different. A Martian day (or how long it takes to rotate once on its axis) is longer than an Earth day and equals 24 hours and 37 minutes. This is because it spins slower than our planet. Moreover, a year on Mars is the same as 687 Earth days! Imagine if you lived on Mars, you would be almost half the age you were on Earth!
